Ranikot Fort, also known as ‘The Great Wall of Sindh,’ is considered the largest fort in the world. However, authorities have not developed it as a popular tourist attraction yet. It is easy to reach the fort from Karachi using the National Highway, and the journey takes around 30 to 40 minutes.
The eastern side of the fort, called “Sann Gate,” has well-preserved walls and offers a beautiful view of the surrounding area. When exploring the fort, visitors can also visit Meeri, a small fortress inside the fort that contains the royal quarters. Another interesting spot is Mohan Gate, which requires walking along a challenging path.
Along the way, visitors can see canyons, rain-streams, and a pond called “paryun jo talao,” which locals call the “pond of fairies.” While safety can be a concern, locals say that it is generally safe to visit, although there are no guarantees. There might be limited police presence, so it’s best to plan a day trip, starting early in the morning and returning to Hyderabad before sunset.
