The China-Pakistan Economic Corridor- CPEC, cabinet committee has recently directed the ministries to get the 116 acres of the prime Gwadar land immediately vacated that was under possession of the law enforcement agencies.
As per the official documents, this delay for getting Gwadar land vacated has also slowed down the work on Gwadar Free Zone as well as the Gwadar Eastbay Expressway, the two projects that are very critical and significant for the overall functioning of the Gwadar Port.
Asad Umar, the Minister for Planning and Development has headed the cabinet panel and has also directed the Ministry of Interior as well as the Ministry of Defence in order to play their role in getting this land vacated. This land had leased out to the Chinese companies under the agreement of Pak-China Gwadar Port.
The CPEC committee has said that the Ministry of Defence must issue the directives to the Pakistan Navy as to vacate the land of 72 acres.
