Mohammad Rizwan of Pakistan became the third hitter in the world on Thursday to score 1500 or more T20 runs in a calendar year after his outstanding performance of 78 from 50 deliveries against Bangladesh in the first game of the triangular series in New Zealand.
Chris Gayle and Rizwan’s countryman Babar Azam are the other two who hold this record. Gayle got 1532 runs in 2012 and 1665 in 2015, whereas Babar had 1607 in 2019 and 1779 in 2021.
Rizwan hit two sixes and seven smashes to the fence in his unbroken innings on Thursday, pushing his total T20 runs in the calendar year 2022 above 1500. Rizwan, who scored a total of 2036 T20 runs last year, has so far amassed 1519 runs in total professional games in the shortest format this year.
