The Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee will meet in Karachi today to observe the crescent of Zilhajj, an important step in deciding the date of Eid ul Adha in Pakistan.
Officials said that the meeting will include religious scholars, meteorology experts, and other members who will review moon sighting reports from different parts of the country. The committee plays a key role in confirming Islamic lunar months based on physical moon sighting.
According to the announcement, if the crescent moon of Zilhajj is sighted today, Eid ul Adha will be observed in Pakistan on May 27. However, if the moon is not seen, the festival will be celebrated on May 28 instead. The final decision will be made after receiving confirmed reports from different regions.
Eid ul Adha is one of the most important religious festivals in the Islamic calendar, and its date depends on the sighting of the lunar month. Therefore, moon sighting meetings are held every year to ensure accurate announcements for the public.
Meanwhile, Saudi Arabia has also asked people to report any confirmed sighting of the Zilhajj moon as part of the international lunar observation process. This helps many Muslim countries coordinate the dates of important religious events.
The decision from today’s meeting will be officially announced later in the evening.
Authorities have urged citizens to stay updated through official announcements and avoid following unverified information on social media.
Security and administrative arrangements are also being finalized to manage gatherings and ensure smooth coordination during the moon sighting process across the country ahead of the decision tonight officially.
