Russia’s Putin Named Pakistan as ‘Key Partner in South Asia’

Vladimir Putin, who sees Pakistan as his country’s principal ally in South Asia and the Islamic world, sent a special letter to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to reiterate his country’s significant interest in developing bilateral relations as well as boosting commerce and investment between the two sides.

Nikolay Shulginov, a visiting Russian energy minister, presented the message to the prime minister at a Thursday meeting in Lahore.

The 8th Round of the Pakistan-Russia Inter-Governmental Commission conference will take place in Islamabad on Friday, and Shulginov will be leading a Russian team there.

Both parties considered buying cheap petroleum products from Russia at the conference as well as the possibility of Russia supplying oil and gas to Pakistan.
