Pakistan’s Saadia Iqbal has made history by becoming the first Pakistani woman to briefly hold the top position in the ICC T20 player rankings. The talented spinner managed to surpass England’s Sophie Ecclestone, who had been leading the rankings since February 2020.
Iqbal’s rise to the top came after an outstanding performance in the Women’s T20 World Cup. She took three wickets for just 17 runs in a crucial match against Sri Lanka, which helped her move ahead of Ecclestone. Although Ecclestone has since regained the top spot, the gap between the two is narrow, with only eight rating points separating them.
With the tournament still ongoing, Iqbal has a strong chance of reclaiming the number one position. So far this year, she has taken 28 wickets in 17 matches, proving herself as one of the best bowlers in women’s cricket.
Her achievements have not only highlighted her individual talent but have also brought pride to Pakistan’s cricket community. Many are now watching closely to see if she can once again take the top spot in the ICC rankings and continue her incredible journey.
