Samsung Electronics Bans Employees from Using ChatGPT

Samsung has imposed a temporary restriction on the use of generative AI tools such as ChatGPT on its personal computers due to their misuse by employees.

The move was announced to employees of one of the company’s largest divisions in a memo at the end of April after cases of misuse were discovered. According to Bloomberg, some employees had uploaded sensitive code to ChatGPT.

One form of generative artificial intelligence is ChatGPT, a popular AI chatbot that can provide responses to user inquiries based on large sets of data.

Samsung currently does not have its own generative AI product and instead relies on third-party services like ChatGPT, which is created by U.S. company OpenAI and supported by Microsoft. Other examples of generative AI products include Google’s Bard.

The possibility of sensitive company data being uploaded onto these foreign-owned platforms has raised concerns for companies regarding potential leaks of critical information.
