Samsung’s folding phones, such as the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2 and the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip, are well-known. However, following the publication of a new patent on April 15, it appears that Samsung may be planning to add another folding phone to its lineup.
This patent depicts a Samsung Galaxy Z Flip-style handset with a few additional features. The display on this new clamshell camera phone is elongated and can be flipped in both directions.
Users will also be able to use the handset in a completely open position, giving them access to both displays as one combined display, according to LetsGoDigital. This is a fascinating idea, and it will be important to see if this design (or anything similar) makes it to the market.
The dual-flip element isn’t the only interesting design feature in Samsung’s new folding handset. The patent also mentions a dual punch-hole selfie camera, which appears to eliminate the need for a main rear camera (since users can easily fold the phone backwards).
It also appears that this latest Samsung Galaxy Z Flip smartphone will have an in-display fingerprint sensor. This would be the first folding phone with a fingerprint scanner that would be processed under the display (the original Samsung Galaxy Z Flip uses a physical button on the side instead).
