Saturday’s New Moon to be the Closest to Earth in 1,337 Years

Even though it won’t be visible to the unaided eye, Saturday’s new moon is expected to be significant since it will be the planet’s closest new moon in 1,337 years.


The new moon will be the closest to Earth in 992 years, according to timeanddatedotcom.

According to the website, the new moon hasn’t been this near to Earth in 1,337 years and won’t be for another 345 years.

According to the Oregon Museum of Science and Industry, the new moon phase occurs every month when the moon is between the sun and the Earth. Similar to how a full moon is the opposite of a new moon.
