Saudi Arabia has announced plans to erect the largest urban park in the world, covering an area larger than 16 square kilometres. The ambitious “Green Riyadh” project seeks to make the Saudi Arabian capital a greener, more sustainable metropolis.
The park will have many amenities, including walking and cycling paths, sports facilities, playgrounds, picnic spots, and botanical gardens. Moreover, the park will contain a 135-kilometre network of walking and cycling paths connecting different city parts.
The more considerable Saudi Arabian initiative to make its cities more livable and sustainable includes Green Riyadh. As part of its Vision 2030 aims to diversify the economy and lessen reliance on oil, the nation has invested heavily in renewable energy and environmentally friendly infrastructure.
The park will be built in stages, with the first one finished by the end of 2024. An eight-square-kilometre park will be made as part of the first phase, and it will have a range of amenities for guests to use.
