Saudi Arabia Set up New Body to Supervise Islam’s Two Holiest Mosques

The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has established a new governing council to oversee the operations of Islam’s most sacred sites, the Grand Holy Mosque in Makkah and the Prophet’s (PBUH) Holy Mosque in Madinah.

According to the announcement made by the Saudi Cabinet, the newly formed presidency of Religious Affairs will be supervised by King Salman. This body will be responsible for managing religious matters within the two revered mosques, encompassing activities such as sermons, religious teachings, and calls to prayer.

The existing General Presidency for the Affairs of both the Holy Mosques will shift into the General authority for the Affairs of the Grand Mosque and the Prophet’s (PBUH) mosque, managing the tasks like maintenance, services, and development.
