Shaheen Afridi beats Imran Khan’s record of most wickets in a Year

Shaheen Shah Afridi, a young paceman, has broken the 78-wicket barrier in a single year, surpassing cricketer-turned-politician and current Prime Minister Imran Khan. Pakistan’s left-arm young fast bowler is on fire, taking 78 wickets in 44 innings of 36 matches at an average of 22 in all three formats (Test, ODI, and T20).

Afridi’s best performance was six wickets for 51 runs. His performance in the T20 World Cup was also outstanding, as he and other players went above and beyond to help the green shirts reach the semi-finals. Former captain Imran Khan collected 76 wickets in 1982, and a Pakistani bowler took the most wickets in international cricket for the first time in nearly three decades in 2021.

Waqar Younis, a former cricketer who is now a coach, took 91 wickets in 1993. The right-arm fast bowler, who also captained the Pakistan national cricket team, holds the record for most wickets in a calendar year among Pakistani fast bowlers.
