Shahid Afridi Rejects Claim of Pushing Shaheen Afridi for Pakistan Captaincy

Former Pakistan cricket captain, Shahid Afridi, has strongly denied recent claims made by a local media channel that he is supporting Shaheen Afridi as a potential future leader of the Pakistan cricket team. In a recent interview, Afridi expressed his frustration with the spreading of false information.

Afridi said, “I was scrolling through my Twitter feed, and I came across a news item claiming that I said Shaheen Afridi could captain the team better than Babar Azam. They even mentioned Lahore Qalandars winning a PSL trophy under his captaincy,” Afridi clarified, dismissing the incorrect information with a laugh.

The former all-rounder expressed confusion and dissatisfaction with how certain statements are being twisted by the media. “I don’t understand why they are attributing such statements to me, even though I share my opinions. I provide my perspective, but they interpret it in their own way. In fact, I’m the one who discourages Shaheen from taking on the captaincy role,” he concluded.

It’s important to note that some local media sources have suggested that Shaheen Afridi might be considered for the position of vice-captain in the ODI and T20I teams, potentially replacing Shadab Khan. However, no official announcement regarding this matter has been made by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).
