During a cabinet meeting headed by Sindh’s Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah on Thursday, the Sindh cabinet sanctioned the allotment of Rs. 1.567 billion for the installation of Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) cameras at toll plazas located on highways.
A project is being planned to implement an ANPR camera system that will involve placing intelligent surveillance cameras at all entry and exit points in Sindh.
These cameras will send live images of the vehicle registration numbers and front seat occupants to the Central Police Office’s mainframe for monitoring. By using a face and number plate recognition system, the cameras will be able to identify the vehicles and passengers, which will facilitate quick and effective action.
