Today, the sister-state effort between the US state of New York and Sindh will take its first step. To formally begin this engagement, Sindh Governor Kamran Khan Tessori will meet with New York State Assembly Deputy Speaker Phil Ramos today. Now, Sister Cities International constitutes almost 2,500 partnerships with sister communities in 134 countries across the globe.
Chairman of the American Pakistani Public Affairs Committee (APPAC), Dr. Ijaz Ahmad, who has strong relations to both Republicans and Democrats, is promoting the sister-state concept. He is now hosting Ramos and Governor Tessori in the City of New York. Ramos was contacted by APPAC on Friday and asked to submit a resolution designating Sindh province and New York as sister states in the State Assembly. Ramos, Dr. Ahmad’s old friend, “graciously agreed” to the idea.
When the governor of Sindh and the deputy speaker of the New York State Assembly meet for a business brunch, the path for this engagement will now be discussed. After this gathering, a group from New York state will travel to Karachi to meet with Sindh Assembly members. The goal is to focus on the topics of shared interest.
Dr. Ijaz Ahmad was asked to make the most of Governor Sindh Kamran Tessori’s trip to Washington, DC, for the benefit of the citizens of both nations by attempting to forge sister-state ties. Dr. Ijaz Ahmad, a prominent American-Pakistani, only needed to make one phone call to arrange everything. Governor Tessori and Dr. Ijaz’s dedication demonstrates how they both seek out methods to assist Pakistan.
