Six Sindh Cities Including Karachi Get Firefighting Snorkels Worth Rs. 1.35 Billion

In a significant move to bolster firefighting capabilities in various cities of Sindh, Justice (retd) Maqbool Baqar, the caretaker Chief Minister, distributed eight advanced snorkels during a ceremony held at the Karachi Water & Sewerage Corporation’s head office. The snorkels, imported from Indonesia and collectively valued at Rs1.35 billion, were allocated to municipal corporations across the region.

Karachi, being the largest city, received three snorkels, while Hyderabad, Sukkur, Nawabshah, Mirpurkhas, and Larkana each obtained one. Justice Baqar, during the distribution event, underscored the pressing issue of inadequate firefighting systems in many high-rise buildings in Karachi, posing a serious risk to residents. Recognizing the urgency of addressing this concern, he announced a comprehensive fire safety audit of buildings to ensure the safety of inhabitants.

The imported snorkels are advanced firefighting machines designed to enhance the efficiency of firefighting departments in handling emergencies. Justice Baqar emphasized the government’s commitment to investing in firefighting equipment, including fire trucks and snorkels, to effectively manage fire incidents.

Furthermore, the caretaker CM stressed the importance of a proactive approach to mitigate the risks associated with inadequate firefighting infrastructure. The snorkels, equipped with state-of-the-art technology, signify a step towards modernizing and strengthening the firefighting capabilities of the region.

In addition to Justice Baqar, the interim local government minister and other dignitaries also addressed the gathering, highlighting the crucial need for robust firefighting systems. They expressed gratitude for the government’s support in acquiring advanced equipment, recognizing the pivotal role such investments play in ensuring the safety and well-being of the community.

This distribution of firefighting resources reflects a proactive stance by the caretaker government in addressing critical safety concerns and underscores the importance of collaborative efforts to enhance emergency response capabilities across cities in Sindh.
