Smartphone-Maker Xiaomi to Start Mass Producing its First EV SU7 in this Month

Xiaomi, a company famous for making smartphones, is about to start selling its very first electric car in China. This car is called the Xiaomi SU7 sedan. But before people can buy it, the government has to say it’s okay. Xiaomi has asked the government for this approval.

The Xiaomi SU7 is a big electric car, and you can choose different sizes for its wheels. You can pick either 19-inch wheels or 20-inch ones. This car will have cool features like a camera on the side that can recognize faces to unlock it.

There are two versions of how the Xiaomi SU7 moves: one with wheels that push the car from the back (rear-wheel drive) and another where all the wheels help move the car (all-wheel drive). The car will use a special kind of battery made by either BYD or CATL. There will be different versions of the car with different features, like some having a wing on the back that moves.

Inside the car, you can choose what color you want, and it will have Xiaomi’s own computer system called HyperOS, just like the ones in their smartphones.

The Xiaomi SU7 is going to be made in big numbers starting in December 2023. People will start getting their cars in February 2024. Another company called BAIC is making these cars for Xiaomi. It’s interesting because BAIC also makes cars for Mercedes-Benz in China.

Xiaomi talked about making electric cars about two and a half years ago and has spent a lot of money on it. Now, they’re getting closer to actually doing it.
