The Spanish government has approved a proposal to invest up to 800 million euros ($950 million) to promote electric vehicle sales until 2023, according to the Energy Ministry.
Private buyers would be eligible for up to 7,000 euros in discounts per vehicle, whereas authorities in small towns and businesses purchasing fleets for use as taxis would be eligible for even more. Electric van buyers could receive up to 9,000 dollars. The bonus scheme will begin on Saturday, according to the ministry.
The incentives come after the government announced plans earlier this year to encourage domestic production of battery-powered vehicles and car batteries.
