Sri Lanka Mission Denies Offering Elephants to Pakistan After Noor Jehan’s Death

On Wednesday, the Sri Lankan High Commission in Pakistan refuted claims that it had made an offer to provide elephants to Pakistan, after the country lost one of its African elephants due to a prolonged illness in a Karachi zoo on Sunday.

“The SL Gov or SL High Commission has never discussed or initiated any action to provide SL elephants to Pakistan,” said the mission in response to a post shared by architect Amir Nazir Chaudhary.

The High Commission of Sri Lanka in Pakistan has denied reports claiming that Sri Lanka offered to provide elephants to the South Asian country.

However, they did mention that the honorary consular of Sri Lanka in Lahore had talked about the possibility of providing elephants, but clarified that this person was not authorized to make any commitments or discussions on behalf of the Sri Lankan government.

The high commission has advised this person to not make any further statements regarding the matter. They stated that there have been no such discussions or initiatives taken by Sri Lanka to provide elephants to the zoos in Karachi and Lahore.
