State Bank Wants PTA to Block Bigo Live and Other “Immoral Apps”

According to reports, the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has been asked by the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) to disable or outright prohibit live-streaming apps like Bigo Live, StreamKar, and others.

According to authorities, the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) has observed that Pakistanis are using these live-streaming sites to send a sizeable sum of foreign currency abroad.

The State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) asserts that these live-streaming services engage in gambling through several channels, including in-app casino games. It further stated that through these applications, a total of $8.93 million had been sent from the nation over the previous two years.

The central bank noted that social media sites like Bigo Live, StreamKar, Mico, and others were being used to produce and distribute immoral content alongside online dating while evaluating the usage of the nation’s foreign exchange.

The State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) requested the country’s telecom regulator, PTA, to “block URLs and social media applications containing and promoting immoral, pornographic, and sexually explicit content and activities.”
