Shorts are not permitted in mosques or government buildings, according to the Saudi Interior Ministry, and violators would face severe fines.
Wearing shorts in mosques and government organisations after the adoption of the new code of conduct, according to Saudi officials, is against social etiquette. If a Saudi citizen or a foreigner is found to have broken social etiquette, he will be penalised between 250 and 500 riyals.
According to the announcement, anyone caught playing’music’ during the call to prayer from the mosques would henceforth be fined 1000 riyals for the first offence and 2000 riyals for subsequent offences.
