Sweeden Shuts its Embassy in Pakistan for an ‘Indefinite’ Period

Due to security concerns, Sweden has shut down its embassy in Islamabad indefinitely. According to the Swedish Embassy, it won’t be open to visitors and won’t be able to send any paperwork to its consulates, Gerry centers, or applicants’ homes.

In Pakistan, terrorism is still a serious danger. The Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and separatist organizations like the Balochistan Liberation Army are among the known and particular dangers. (BLA). The TTP poses the greatest threat after breaking a truce with Pakistani security forces on November 28. The TTP has the ability to plan and execute mass casualty strikes in cities across the nation, despite the fact that it mainly targets security and/or government employees on a smaller scale in the provinces of Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Since its leader Imran Khan was removed from office in April 2022, the Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf (PTI), the main opposition party, has also routinely organized disruptive and violent protests in key cities. Up to the conclusion of the federal elections in October, more disturbance is likely.

While expressing regret for the inconvenience, the embassy said that giving workers and visa applicants protection comes first.
