Tea Prices in Pakistan Raised by Rs. 200 Per Kg as Economic Crisis Looms

Due to the 250 or so containers that were detained at the port from late December 2022 to early January, tea manufacturers have raised their rates by Rs 200 per kg.

Details indicate that black tea (loose) prices increased by Rs 200 to Rs 1,800 per kg as a result of the importers’ struggles to clear their containers.

The importers said in a statement that almost 250 containers had been held up at the port since they arrived between late December 2022 and early January, and that a further 250 containers were on their way to Karachi.

The importers issued a crisis alert, stating that if the held-up consignments were not released, the price of tea could reach Rs 2,500 per kg during Ramadan.
