Telenor Pakistan has officially merged with Pak Telecom Mobile Limited (PTML), also known as Ufone. This marks one of the biggest deals in Pakistan’s telecom history. The Islamabad High Court gave final approval, ending a long process of regulatory checks. As a result, Telenor Pakistan no longer exists as a separate company. Its operations, customers, and network now form part of PTML, which is a wholly owned subsidiary of PTCL.
The merger brings together millions of users and creates a stronger mobile operator. The combined company now holds about 35-36% market share, making it the second largest after Jazz. It serves over 70 million subscribers and has a larger spectrum holding for better services, including future 5G rollout.
This development is expected to improve network quality, expand coverage, and increase investment in digital infrastructure. Customers may see better call quality, faster data, and new services in the coming months. The merger also reduces the number of major mobile operators in Pakistan from four to three, which could lead to healthier competition and innovation.
PTCL, backed by UAE’s e& group, aims to use this strength to transform Pakistan’s telecom sector. Experts believe the move will benefit users through improved technology and service standards while helping the company compete more effectively in a fast-changing market.
