Tesla Plans to Remove Steering Wheel Nag With New Full Self-Driving Update

Tesla is planning a big update for its Full Self-Driving (FSD) system, expected to come out next week. CEO Elon Musk said it will be impressive, though he didn’t give many details. One major change is getting rid of the steering wheel reminder that asks drivers to touch the wheel. Instead, Tesla will use a camera inside the car to check if the driver is paying attention.

Right now, Tesla’s system reminds drivers every minute to make sure they’re focused. But some people find this annoying because they have to do it so often. The new camera system already alerts drivers if they look away from the road for more than three seconds. Some people also find this frustrating.

Critics worry that the camera system might not work perfectly and could lead to drivers using the system improperly. However, Tesla says drivers still need to be ready to take control of the car at any time.

This change comes at a bold time for Tesla, especially since the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) is looking into a Tesla recall related to alerts for Autopilot and Full Self-Driving. Tesla keeps saying that drivers must stay focused and keep their hands on the wheel when using these features.
