On Saturday, speakers at the second day of the three-day ‘Colours of Thar’ festival said that Thar was rapidly changing and would change Pakistan by generating coal-fired power to meet the country’s electricity needs.
The festival was organized by the district administration in cooperation with SECMC, Thar Foundation, Hubco, Sino Sindh Resources, Shanghai Electric, and a number of other organizations.
On the second day of the festival, bikers and bands from the Pakistan Armed Forces and Rangers performed various feats. Thardeep Rural Development Programme, Baanhn Beli, District Development Association, Sindh Education Foundation, and other government departments set up stalls showing Thar handicrafts, embroidery, and other cultural products.
During a visit of the stalls, Tharparkar Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Nawaz Soho told reporters that the festival would go a long way in promoting the desert district’s rich culture, traditions, history, and many previously unexplored aspects.
“By organizing this event in collaboration with coal mining companies and NGOs, we were able to present the beautiful face of Thar,” he said, adding that the closing day would be held in Naukot fort on Sunday evening.
