The Government of Skardu announces the construction of an international airport.

Fawad Chaudhry, the Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting, revealed on Tuesday that the federal government has chosen to build a new international standard airport in Skardu in order to enhance tourism and meet the needs of international visitors, according to ARY News.

The federal minister told the media in Islamabad that a new all-weather international airport is being built in Skardu, while current airports in Skardu and Gilgit are being upgraded to all-weather airports to enhance tourism in the region.

“The Prime Minister has given explicit instructions to keep all tourism-related airports functioning throughout the year,” he continued.

In Skardu, Gilgit-Baltistan, there is now a domestic civil airport. Skardu has two asphalt runways, one measuring 8,740 feet (2,664 metres) and the other at 11,944 feet (3,641 metres).

PIA inaugurated its Air Safari flights last month in an effort to encourage tourism in the nation. With 91 visitors on board, including foreign nationals from as many as 13 nations, the airline’s maiden picturesque Air Safari trip took off from Islamabad International Airport.
