The Ministry has announced that the regional passport office in Garden Town, Lahore, will now be open to the public 24 hours a day, while the regional passport office at Awami Markaz in Karachi will also operate around the clock.
These regional offices will offer services in three shifts, providing more convenience for citizens who need passport-related assistance.
Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi stated on social media that this decision aims to make passport services more accessible and convenient for citizens.
This initiative is expected to make it much easier for people to get passport-related services and reduce the time they have to wait.
Moreover, efforts are being made to deal with the backlog of more than 800,000 pending passports by buying new machinery and lamination paper.
Currently, the Passport and Immigration authorities are processing 20,000 to 25,000 passports daily, even though they receive 40,000 to 45,000 applications every day.
Earlier reports mentioned long delays in issuing passports, which affected over 550,000 applicants, with wait times of two to three months.
