This is 3.2 Billion Pixel Space Camera that can Take the Largest Single Image in the World

In 2020, scientists introduced an amazing camera that can take the largest and most detailed pictures ever. It was made for the Legacy Survey of Space and Time (LSST) at Chile’s Rubin Observatory to explore space, study galaxies, and learn about dark matter. Before it went to space, they tested the camera using vegetables, and it showed how well it can see faint light in space.

The camera is as big as an SUV and has 189 individual light sensors, each taking 16 megapixels. When they put these sensors together, they created a camera with over 3,000 megapixels, which is a huge amount. The camera’s resolution is so good that it can see a golf ball from a distance of about 15 miles.

It took a skilled team, led by mechanical engineer Hannah Pollek, to create this amazing camera. She said it was a tough challenge, but they succeeded in making something incredible.
