This Is What the Next Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV Might Look Like

One of the most popular plug-in hybrid vehicles in recent years is the Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV, which is based on the third generation of this model. It has sold more than 200,000 at the 2012 Paris Motor Show, although it must be said that its success is much greater in Europe and other parts of the World than in the United States (where it is known as the Outlander Sport).

Well now the third-gen Outlander is moving towards the end of its existence and an all-new model that will get an updated PHEV version, will replace it. And while we still don’t have too many specifics about how Mitsubishi plans to adjust the powertrain of the plug-in, we already know what the future model is going to look like.

Thanks to these Kolesa.ru renderings, we have quite a good understanding of the exterior look of the fourth-gen Outlander. Based on teasers released by Mitsubishi, the renderings were produced as well as a series of shots provided by a car enthusiast who spotted a fully uncovered new Outlander prototypes.

Reportedly, the new model is riding on a platform shared with the Nissan Rogue, and while we don’t know exactly what engines are going to be provided for it, we’re pretty sure that the famous PHEV will be retained. How do we expect this to improve for Mitsubishi? Well, expect a larger battery than the current version’s 12 kWh pack and thus an improved pure-electric range.

It is planned that the all-new Outlander will be released in February 2021 and we don’t know whether or if the PHEV will be available from the start or whether it will be added later after the launch.
