Tourists Stopped from Entering Jam-Packed Murree Due to Heavy SnowFall

Authorities in Pakistan’s popular hill station, Murree, have temporarily halted the entry of more tourists due to heavy snowfall and subsequent road closures. The recent snowfall in the Murree and Galyat region attracted a large number of visitors, causing severe traffic congestion and bringing the mountain resort city to a standstill.

The local administration reported a massive influx of tourists, leading to significant traffic flow issues as thousands of vehicles entered the region covered in heavy snow. Over the past 24 hours, Murree received more than 10 inches of snow, leaving popular tourist destinations blanketed and visitors stranded.

The extensive traffic jams on the slippery roads, especially on the Murree Expressway, resulted in vehicles being unable to move smoothly. Both the Highway Authority and local administration are facing challenges in clearing the roads of accumulated snow to restore normal traffic conditions.

With the record-breaking entry of tourists, hotel rates have skyrocketed, making it difficult for people to find affordable accommodation. Visitors are now grappling with the challenge of securing rooms at economical prices amidst the surge in demand.

Tourists have been cautioned to exercise caution due to the potential risk of landslides in the upper parts of the region, triggered by heavy downpours and snowfall. The authorities are urging people to be careful and adhere to safety guidelines.

According to the Meteorological Office, snowfall is expected to continue intermittently in the upper regions. Additionally, Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan are anticipated to receive thundershowers and snowfall. Today, heavy rain and snowfall are predicted in specific areas, further complicating the situation.

This scenario highlights the delicate balance between the natural allure of winter tourism and the challenges it poses to local infrastructure, transportation, and accommodation. The authorities are working diligently to address the immediate issues caused by the heavy snowfall and ensure the safety and well-being of both residents and visitors in Murree.
