Transporters Raise Fare After Increase in Fuel Price

Due to the recent increase in fuel prices, local transporters in Karachi have raised their fares by up to 20 percent without getting approval from the authorities. The transporters increased fares for routes from Karachi to Hyderabad, Larkana, and Sukkur, as well as for buses and coaches within the city.

The federal government also raised petrol and high-speed diesel prices significantly during their review. The new petrol price is Rs272.95 per liter, and high-speed diesel is now priced at Rs273.40 per liter. The Finance Minister said the fuel price hike was necessary to fulfill commitments with the International Monetary Fund (IMF), including the imposition of the petroleum development levy (PDL).

Despite the government’s fuel price increase, local transporters independently decided to raise their fares without waiting for any official approval. This has worried commuters, as they now have to pay higher transportation costs without any official oversight or regulation on the fare increase.
