Turkiye Faces Runoff Election as Erdogan Falls Below 50% Votes

Turkey is planning to gear up for its presidential runoff election for the first time in history since Erdogan, the president of Turkey, who has been in power for more than two decades, failed to secure the necessary 50% votes against his secular rival Kemal Kilicdaroglu, who got the 45% required to win the first round.

Erdogan is a very popular leader among the citizens of Turkey as he has led his people through the trans-formative period, but due to political turmoil based on the failed coup attempt in 2016, the foreign allies and Turks rethought and chose an alternative to Erdogan’s Islamic-rooted party.

Despite spreading hate among his opponents and some foreign bodies, he still remains popular among his people, as under his leadership, Turkey has remarkable flourished and developed.

Turkey is also facing an economic crisis since the devastation of the earthquake that hit Turkey in February this year and took the lives of over 50,000

The runoff elections are scheduled for May 28, 2023.

The voter turnout rate is approximately 90%, making it the most important and highlighted election of the Ottoman era, as international powers are also keenly observing these elections.
