“We are working on introducing a new freelance policy that adopts all skill levels,” Al Awar said.

He added, “I am hoping to get this done before the end of the third quarter of this year.”

Al Awar made it clear that the new freelance work model, which aims to improve the workforce in the nation, will be added to all the recent reforms that have been declared and are currently being carried out by the nation.

“This will further support flexible work and remote work.”

With such flexible work permits, talents won’t have to be tied to employers. “In the new policy, you work for yourself. It’s an ad hoc job where you decide what kind of work you wish to take up,” the minister explained.

A similar system offers benefits to businesses as well. Some employers believe that this is more cost-effective for them because they avoid having to take chances and make a decision on whether to keep an employee or not. The employee, however, is not bound to a specific kind of organisation. This will raise labour market productivity and raise the worth of individuals in the workforce.
