US Set to Return to Moon After 50 Years on January 25

The United States is set to attempt a lunar landing on January 25, more than 50 years after the last Apollo mission.

The private company Astrobotic, with its lander named Peregrine, aims to carry NASA instruments to study the lunar environment in preparation for future manned missions under NASA’s Artemis program.

The fixed-price contracts with private companies, part of NASA’s Commercial Lunar Payload Services (CLPS) program, aim to develop a lunar economy and provide cost-effective transport services.

Astrobotic’s Peregrine will launch on December 24 and autonomously attempt landing on the moon on January 25, monitored from the company’s control center.
