The Directorate of Religious Affairs (Diyanet) in Turkiye has recently stated that while a metaverse visit to the Kaaba is possible, it will never be considered a true worship and a real Hajj.
Remzi Bircan, the director of Diyanet’s Department of Hajj and Umrah Services, said on February 1, 2022, “This (Hajj on the metaverse) cannot happen… people’s feet should touch the ground.”
Following Saudi Arabia’s decision to construct a metaverse version of the Kaaba, it gave rise to conversy among Muslims all over the world. Moreover, in December 2021, the “Virtual Black Stone Initiative” will take place.
The country introduced Islam’s holiest site into the metaverse, allowing Muslims to digitally observe the Hajr Aswad, or Black Stone, in Mecca from the comfort of their own homes.
