“We’re Not Divorced Yet, She Can’t Remarry”: Husband of Indian Woman Who Traveled to Pakistan to Marry Her Friend

Kumar, the husband of Anju, an Indian woman, said that they are not divorced yet, so she cannot marry her Facebook friend from Pakistan. Anju claims she submitted divorce papers three years ago, but Kumar hasn’t received any court notice yet, so legally, they are still married. He wants the government to investigate this matter.

Anju traveled to a remote village in Pakistan to meet her Facebook friend after converting to Islam and taking the name Fatima. Kumar thinks the government should look into her passport and visa documents to see if she used fake papers to go to Pakistan without informing him.

Kumar plans to file a report once Anju returns to India. He mentioned that their daughter refuses to accept Anju as her mother, making it difficult for them to reconcile. Kumar is surprised by Anju’s actions, as she used to get tense due to work but never thought she would do something like this. They had an arranged marriage, and she got along well with the children.

Kumar believes the children should live with him, and he wants the government to cancel Anju’s visa and passport to prevent her from going back to Pakistan. Anju was born in Uttar Pradesh, India, and lived in Rajasthan. She and Nasrulla, a Pakistani national, became Facebook friends in 2019.
