Women have the option of mentioning their husband’s name in CNIC: Nadra

Females can now choose to mention their husbands’ names in their computerized national identity cards (CNIC) or continue with their father’s name, thanks to a key step taken by the National Database and Registration Authority (Nadra) for women’s empowerment in the country.

Nadra Chairman Tariq Malik spoke at the 14th Annual Rural Women Conference’s closing session, saying that revolutionary efforts had been done to raise women’s registration in order to empower and safeguard their rights.

In 100 days, Malik claimed, they had reduced the current registration difference between men and women from 14% to 10%. He also mentioned that an inclusive registration unit had been established and that it was working hard to increase women’s registration. “The unit is assessing all measures to improve women registration,” he said, whether they are tied to awareness or outreach.
