Women’s Hair Trade Becoming a Valuable Source of Income in Pakistan

Women’s combed-out hair is gradually becoming a valuable source of income since it attracts high prices in the worldwide beauty market, despite being unorthodox.

The hair is then exported to China, where it is used to make wigs.

Zubair Arshad, a hair collector, told that hair that falls out during brushing produces the greatest quality hairpieces.

He added that he is always on the hunt for good quality hair, which they buy from ladies in the country for Rs4,000 per kilogramme.

According to the collector, he normally sells hair to dealers for Rs7,000 per kilogramme, and some of these dealers sell it to custom clearing agents for up to Rs10,000 per kilogramme. The customs agents then sell them to China for Rs15,000 per kilogramme, resulting in substantial profit margins for all parties involved.

Nadeem Khan, another hair collector, says he doesn’t collect hair from beauty parlours or salons since it’s useless to them.
