World Champion England officially out of the World Cup After Defeat from Australia

Australia defeated England by 33 runs on Saturday to eliminate the reigning champions from the Cricket World Cup. Leg-spinner Adam Zampa claimed three wickets in the victory. After chasing 287 to win in Ahmedabad, England collapsed for 253 in 48.1 overs despite a heroic 64 from Ben Stokes, their sixth loss in seven games, and they remain bottom of the 10-team standings.

With their fifth consecutive victory, defending champion Australia moved one step closer to joining South Africa and India in the semifinals, where they have already qualified for the final four.

England overcommitted themselves. Undoubtedly, they contributed to some of it, but Australia’s outstanding performance on both the field and with the ball—all 10 of their wickets came from catches.
