World Oldest hotel has been Run by the Same Family for Over 1300 Years

Despite the ongoing change in the hotel industry, some organisations have weathered the test of time. An example is the Nishiyama Onsen Keiunkan in Japan, which is close to Mount Fuji. This one is the oldest hotel in the world and has been operating since 705. The fact that it has been run by the same family since its establishment more than 1,300 years ago is another unique aspect.

Fujiwara Mahito established the thousand-year-old family business Nishiyama Onsen Keiunkan in 705. The founder’s ancestors have run the hotel for over 1,300 years, and it has gone through 52 successive generations of leadership in Hayaka, in the Yamanashi area.

With 37 rooms, including suites with views of the surrounding mountains and the Hayakawa and Yukawa ravines, the family-run hotel has undergone renovations since 1997.

The rooms’ minimalist, exquisite Japanese style beckons you to unwind. The eatery serves regional cuisine prepared with seasonal ingredients from the area. The numerous indoor and outdoor baths provided by the Nishiyama Onsen Keiunkan are the area’s main attraction.

  • Natural hot springs with health-promoting qualities

The world’s oldest hotel has long been a favourite among Japanese travellers for its baths. Celebrities, politicians, and even samurai have flocked to this location for years to take advantage of its hot springs’ healing effects. At Nishiyama Onsen Keiunkan, the Mochitani no Yu bath is the most well-liked, whose water is drawn directly from the area’s hot springs. The Yamanashi region is blessed with natural springs well known for treating skin, muscle, and digestive issues.

  • Nishiyama Onsen Keiunkan is a well-known hotel.

For precisely 1,317 years, the Nishiyama Onsen Keiunkan has been a mainstay of the Japanese hospitality sector. It is currently recognised as a global institution. One of the oldest businesses in the world, it was recognised as the oldest hotel by Guinness World Records in 2011. All visitors will concur that it has survived the years by upholding a strong spirit of hospitality and service.
