‘World’s First Sculpture’ Celebrating Women Who Wear Hijab

A 16-foot steel sculpture called “Strength of the Hijab” is nearing completion and will soon be installed in Birmingham, the UK’s second-largest city.

This one-tonne statue, commissioned by the local charity Legacy West Midlands, is believed to be the world’s first of its kind. It was created by artist Luke Perry to honor Muslim women who wear the hijab.

Perry explained that the sculpture is meant to represent these women and provide them with the visibility they deserve, as they are an important but often underrepresented part of the community.

The design of the sculpture was a collaborative effort with the community to ensure it accurately reflects their significance.
