Archaeologists have discovered a very old musical instrument in a cave in Germany. It is a flute made from the bones of a griffon vulture. The flute was created around 35,000 years ago, making it the oldest known handmade musical instrument.
The archaeologists found 12 pieces of bone in the Hohle Fels cave and put them together to reconstruct the flute. It is about 8.6 inches long, has five holes, and a notched end.
This discovery provides more evidence that early humans in Europe had a sophisticated and creative culture.
