Yasir Arafat to Serve as Head Coach of Pakistan Team in Micky Arthur’s Absence

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is set to hire former cricketer Yasir Arafat as the new bowling and assistant coach of the Pakistan men’s team. According to sources, after discussions with Mickey Arthur, it was decided that Arafat would also serve as the head coach in Arthur’s absence.

It must be noted that despite assuming the team’s director position, Arthur will not be with the team during the international series that will take place during the English county season, as he will be busy working as the full-time coach for Derbyshire County Cricket Club.

Pakistan will tour Sri Lanka in July for two Tests. The team will take part in the Asia Cup in September. Arthur is expected to be unavailable for these assignments. But he will join the team for the 2023 World Cup in India and the Australian tour later this year.

In addition, Arthur previously led the Pakistan team for three years after he took over in 2016. Following the team’s fifth-place finish in the 2019 ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup, the PCB made the decision not to renew its contracts with Arthur. The chairman of the PCB Management Committee, Najam Sethi,is of the view that Arthur is qualified to lead the Pakistan team and select the coaching staff.
