2.1 Million Pakistanis Issued Tax Notices by FBR

The Federal Board of Revenue reported on Sunday that it had sent tax notices to 2.1 million people throughout the country. The FBR said in a statement that these people either didn’t file their taxes, misled the IRS, or hid their profits.

As per the FBR, number of tax filers in Pakistan has risen to 2,623,000. Last year, 2,430,000 people filed their wealth statements over the same time span. In contrast to the same time last fiscal year, the FBR intercepted 57 percent more contraband. In the month of February alone, it seized consignments worth Rs4 billion.

According to the revenue authority, point-of-sale devices have been installed in 9,952 major retail stores across the country. The FBR’s device has also been connected to a number of shopping malls, according to the statement. The FBR has threatened to take action against anyone who do not obey the tax laws.
