Planning to do CA?
If you are an intermediate student and want to pursue CA in future as a career. But you are confused regarding the stages and structure of CA certification. Then you are at the right place. Here you will get all the information regarding CA.
Stages in CA:
There are four stages in CA, which are:
- Entry level (PRC + QAT)
- Certificate in Accounting and Finance (CAF)
- Certified Finance and Accounting Professional (CFAP)
- Multi-Subject Assessment (MSA)

Entry Level:
Eligibility Criteria: A candidate having minimum 60% marks in HSSC is eligible for registration in Pre-Requisite Competencies (PRC). Those candidates having less than 60% marks but not less than 50% marks in HSSC shall have to pass Quality Assessment Test (QAT) in order to be eligible for registration in PRC.
Papers: The assessment of PRC shall consist of the following papers:
- PRC-1 Business Writing and Comprehension Skills
- PRC-2 Quantitative Methods
- PRC-3 Principles of Economics
- PRC-4 Introduction to Accounting
- PRC-5 Introduction to Business
Exam Schedule: PRC assessments shall be offered monthly by the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Pakistan (ICAP).
CAF Level:
Eligibility Criteria: A candidate having passed or obtained exemption from QAT and PRC shall be eligible for CAF level.
Papers: There are two Groups under this level which consist of the following papers:
- Group A
- CAF-1 Financial Accounting and Reporting-I
- CAF-2 Tax Practices
- CAF-3 Cost and Management Accounting
- CAF-4 Business Law
- Group B
- CAF-5 Financial Accounting and Reporting-II
- CAF-6 Managerial and Financial Analysis
- CAF-7 Company Law
- CAF-8 Audit and Assurance
Exam Schedule: The assessment of CAF is conducted semi-annually in the months of March and September.
CFAP and MSA Level:
Eligibility Criteria: A candidate having passed or obtained exemption from CAF and has completed one year of articleship is eligible for this level.
Papers: The CFAP and MSA consist of the following papers:
- Certified Finance and Accounting Professional (CFAP)
- CFAP-1 Advanced Accounting and Financial Reporting
- CFAP-2 Advanced Corporate Laws and Practices
- CFAP-3 Strategy and Performance Measurement
- CFAP-4 Business Finance Decisions
- CFAP-5 Tax Planning and Practices
- CFAP-6 Audit, Assurance and Related Services
- Multi-Subject Assessment (MSA)
- MSA-1 Financial Reporting and Assurance Professional Competence
- MSA-2 Management Professional Competence
Exam Schedule: The assessment of CFAP/MSA is conducted semi-annually in the months of June and December.
