Many Muslims are unaware that there is a specific technique to drink ZamZam water and a Dua to do so. Then are the 6 proprieties.
Dua for drinking ZamZam water:
Ibn Abbas used to savor a glass of ZamZam water while reciting the following dua.
اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ عِلْمًا نَافِعَاً وَرِزْقَاً. وَاسِعَاً وَشِفَاءَ مِنْ كُلِّ دَاءِ
O Allah, I seek from You salutary knowledge, wide food, and mending from all affections.

Make prayers:
Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said’ The water of Zamzam is for whatever it’s drunk for.”
– Sunan Ibn Majah 3062
- This water provides mending to those who seek to heal.
- Satisfies the hunger of those who are empty and.
- Quenches the thirst of those who are empty each if Allah wills.
Drink it while standing:
It is Prophet Muhammad ﷺ’s sunnah to consume ZamZam while standing.
Ibn Abbas رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ reported I served ZamZam water to Prophet Muhammad and he drank it while standing. – Sunan an-Nasa’i 2965.
Facing Qiblah:
Ibn Abba رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ should drink ZamZam while facing the Qiblah. – Sunan Ibn Majah 3061.
Drink in 3 drafts:
The ZamZam water should be drunk in three draughts, according to Ibn Abbas. Sunan Ibn Majah 3061.
Drink full of the stomach:
A man should drink as much of the water as he can and after that be thankful to Allah for giving him the occasion of drinking this Holy Water from such a Holy Well.
According to the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, the hypocrites’ refusal to drink their filler from Zamzam is the difference between us and them.- Sunan Ibn Majah 3061.
