Pakistan’s government plans to introduce an all-in-one emergency helpline, 911, to react to calls for assistance quickly across the country.
Various emergency lines will be consolidated into a single hotline known as Pakistan Emergency Helpline (PEHEL). The plan is to develop a service akin to the United States’ 911 helpline.
“While we will give technical support and construct the backend infrastructure, the interior ministry will ensure that it is implemented by forging collaboration among various emergency response services at the federal and provincial levels,” said IT minister.
The dedicated emergency response number can be dialled to obtain various services such as police, ambulance, and other rescue and support, eliminating the need for individuals to call multiple helplines during an emergency.
