Pakistan has expanded the Federal Investigation Agency’s (FIA) overseas immigration network to eight countries as part of efforts to combat human smuggling, trafficking and immigration-related fraud.
FIA immigration offices operating through Pakistani missions in Oman, Iran, Greece, the UK, Italy, Spain, Türkiye and the UAE work with local authorities on immigration matters.
Their responsibilities include verifying Pakistani nationality and travel documents, assisting detained nationals, coordinating repatriation and helping address cases involving illegal migration and fraud.
The government is also considering establishing similar FIA immigration offices in Saudi Arabia and Poland, potentially further expanding Pakistan’s overseas response to immigration-related crimes.
These FIA immigration functions are separate from the work of Community Welfare Attachés, whose primary responsibilities focus on employment-related matters and the welfare of Pakistani workers abroad.
