The Sindh Department of Information Technology, with the help of experts, has discovered that sand from Thar is ideal for making computer chips.
According to the experts, using Thar sand to make chip layers can meet the big demand for digital products. So, the Department of Information Technology has suggested setting up a silicon chip wafer factory to the government.
Experts say making chip wafers needs coal, sand, water, and electricity. Among these, Thar sand is the best choice.
Building the chip wafer factory might cost around $450 million. This expense could possibly be covered by the CPEC project. They plan to build the factory on 150 acres of land in the Tharparkar area of Islamkot.
The Sindh Information Technology Department has finished the initial paperwork for the Chip Wafer Foundry project. They’ve sent it to the concerned ministries for review and approval.
